Pakistan is facing one of the worst flood crises in the world with 1/3rd of the country under water, reportedly. It has most glaciers in the world, outside arctic region. Thus, the heat waves experienced in the months of June and July due to climate change, the glaciers have excessively melted increasing the volume of rivers. This coupled with the torrential monsoon rainfall increased the chance of floods by 50%.

The conditions of people is devastating in Pakistan and mostly worker class and lower middle class people are affected. 1 million houses have been destroyed and 33 million people displaced. The conditions in refugee camps have worsened due to lack of resources. The path of aid and necessities to these camps is being hindered due to destruction of infrastructure. Waterborne diseases are spreading like fire amongst the refugees. Food prices had already skyrocketed due to inflation caused by political and economic instability in the country, and now destruction of crops have increased the danger of famine in the affected areas especially Sindh and Balochistan.

Experts fear that rice crops might also get destroyed which would have a global impact as Pakistan is fourth largest rice exporter in the world.

Pakistan is responsible for 0.4% of CO2 emission worldwide however it is included in the list of top ten most vulnerable countries due to climate change. The result are the recent floods which have made social stability crumble in almost half of the country. Why should third world countries like Pakistan pay consequences for the industrial activities of countries? It’s time to reach a mutual agreement globally and take decisive steps against global warming to prevent calamities like these in future. And right now Pakistan needs your help to provide basic necessities to its citizen. So be generous and donate to aid the innocent Pakistan people.
